Sourcing

Posting your job board in the right place and sourcing for candidates can be one of the trickiest parts of the process. It requires a little bit of time to find the right places to post.

💡 Try and figure out where you ideal candidate hangs out on the internet.

An overview of the sourcing step -

  1. Post the job: Share the job description where your target candidates hang out, such as Upwork, YC Work at a Startup, etc. https://www.upwork.com/jobs/~018c2e9c5a7e6c80ae
  2. Invite: Share your JD with potential applicants via Linked in, email, socials, etc.
  3. Collect applications: Require candidates to submit short answers to specific, experience-based questions related to the job requirements.

Posting the Job Description

We usually brainstorm where to post our job descriptions with at least 1 other person on the team. Below is an example of Duncan and Julian brainstorming ideas for the Freelance Webflow Template Developer role.

For this position we went with;

  • Memberstack slack
  • Webflow Experts Slack
  • Relume Slack
  • Webflow Global Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Manual outreach to folks posting in the Webflow showcase

For this role we needed someone who could build in Webflow so that helped narrow down our search to find out where Webflow devs hang out. Luckily for us, we are pretty cemented in the Webflow community ourselves so know where folks tend to regularly be. The Memberstack slack is predominantly Webflow focused, the same for the Webflow experts slack and facebook group. Relume put out a lot of Webflow related content so we posted on their slack too. Twitter is always a good option especially for us, we tweet and retweet a lot about Webflow so we know our audience are webflow users or aware of Webflow. Lastly manual outreach to folks in the webflow showcase, Duncan reached out to a few folks who had recently released high quality cloneables to see if they would be interested.

Invite

We also do a round of posting and inviting folks in the usual go to places like Linkedin, email, socials.

Folks we know in the community who we think might be interested we send them an email or a slack/twitter dm.

For our Webflow Template Developer position we had 3 strong candidates -

Billie who we messaged through the Webflow Showcase.

Evgenii from our personal network.

Manuel from basically everywhere! Discourse, our slack community, showcase and the webflow facebook.

Examples

If you’re hiring a React developer take some time to search for React groups like Reactiflux and ReactJS.
